Research & Publications
| Early recognition of the need for research in aquatic rehabilitation was the impetus for establishing the clinic in 1989. Director of research and program founder, Jan Prins, Ph.D. is a member of the faculty in the Department of Kinesiology, and Adjunct Associate Professor in the Division of Sports Medicine, John A. Burns School of Medicine, at the University of Hawaii. He is also the founder and Director of the Aquatic Research Laboratory based at the University of Hawaii. Beginning with a research grant awarded by the U.S. National Institute of Disability Rehabilitation Services in 1985, which was one of the first studies to examine the underwater movement patterns of permanently disabled persons, Prins Aquatherapy has been involved with research related to aquatic exercise for the past 23 years. National and International collaboration with researchers continues.
